Chapters and Tribes
There are many squads working in different cities globally whom we can call a tribe.
These squads are made up of a matrix of skills with similar skills or competency areas across squads termed as chapters.
A chapter lead is a line manager who is really a servant leader. This allows a squad member to double hat in another squad under the same competency as he still reports to the same line manager.
This is not a fixed structure. Squads, chapters and tribes keep changing and this is normal.
Releases to Production
The whole reason behind this way of working is to have frequent and quick release cycles.
For that, release to production must be made easy so that it can be done often.
To make this happen, we invest heavily in test automation and continuous delivery infrastructure.
There is a self-service culture where all these tools can be used by different squads to make releases easy.
